I’ve had the privilege of working with many superb string players with whom I’ve developed my ear for the qualities and capacities of string as a deeply magical substance. Here are 3 recent solo CD releases from the awesome Karin Hellqvist (LAWO), Louise McMonagle (Delphian) and Sarah Saviet (Coviello).
Karin Hellqvist plays One and the Other (Speculative Polskas for Karin) (2022), a work that was developed with Karin as part of her PhD research Transforming with the Artistic Palette (2025). The LAWO disc includes music by Karin Hellqvist, Carola Bauckholt, Henrik Strindberg, Liza Lim, Jenny Hettne and Christian Wallumrød

Louise McMonagle includes Cello Playing ~ as Meteorology (2021) on her Ancient Modernity disc moving between contemporary abstraction and reinventions of folk tunes, taking in Baroque bass lines, the sound of the Arabian oud, and ancient Gaelic psalmody. The Delphian CD has music by John Maxwell Geddes, Liza Lim, Errollyn Wallen, Lisa Streich, Caroline Shaw and Josephine Stephenson.
